Bring these

Bring for an in-person update

Photo ID

Your current Ohio driver license or state ID.

New residential address

And your mailing address, if it is different.

Registrations or plate numbers

For each vehicle whose registration address you are updating.

Last four of the SSN

Last four digits of the primary owner's Social Security number.

Payment, only for new cards

A record update is enough by itself. Pay only if you want a duplicate license, ID, or registration card.

Decision point

Two records, two updates

License or ID record

Update your address on file. The record change alone meets the legal requirement.

Each vehicle registration

Update the address tied to every vehicle you own, one by one.

New card optional

Request a duplicate license, ID, or registration card only if you want the new address printed.

At the visit

Simple steps

  1. Decide what you are updating. Most movers need both records.
  2. Gather your ID, new address, and registration details.
  3. Update your driver license or ID address at the counter or through online options.
  4. Update each vehicle's registration address and decide whether you want new cards.

Avoid a return trip

  • Do not update only one record. License and registration are separate.
  • Do not miss a vehicle. Each registration is updated individually.
  • Do not wait past Ohio's 10-day window after a move.
