Skills result or course card

A passing skills-test result, or a Motorcycle Ohio Basic Course completion card within 60 days of issuance.

Your motorcycle TIPIC

Your valid motorcycle temporary permit.

Current Ohio license

Needed if you are adding an endorsement to an existing license.

Parent or guardian if under 18

Present to sign, with their own valid ID. Younger riders must also complete driver education first.

Payment

The total depends on whether the transaction issues a new, renewal, or duplicate credential. Confirm before you pay.

Skills test or rider course?

Skills test

Taken on an off-street course with a valid TIPIC, a helmet, eye protection, and a street-legal bike in safe condition.

Motorcycle Ohio course

A Basic Course completion card waives the skills test for 60 days. It is also the best way for new riders to build real skills.

At the visit

Simple steps

  1. Pass the motorcycle knowledge test and get your motorcycle TIPIC.
  2. Satisfy the skills requirement, by test or by approved course.
  3. Bring your result or course card to an official DMV or BMV office within the 60-day window.
  4. Have the endorsement issued and carry interim paperwork until the card arrives by mail.

Avoid a return trip

  • Do not come to an official DMV or BMV office for the skills test. official offices issue the endorsement afterward.
  • Do not let the 60-day course waiver lapse.
  • Do not ride outside TIPIC restrictions. No night riding, no freeway, no passengers, helmet required.
