Collegiate or sports

$35.00 a year, part of it typically supports a scholarship fund at the school you choose.

Military or veteran

No additional annual plate fee, but proof of eligibility such as a DD-214 is required.

Organizational

$0 to $50.00 a year by design, some need a certificate or authorization from the sponsoring group.

Simple steps

  1. Pick your plate and confirm eligibility requirements.
  2. Gather your documents and complete form BMV 4705.
  3. Pay the annual plate fee plus any transaction and registration fees.
  4. Watch the mail, the state manufactures and mails the plate.

Avoid a return trip

  • Do not skip the DD-214 or sponsor authorization, the plate cannot be issued without it.
  • Do not assume a personalized combination is available, check first.
  • Do not overlook the $10.00 retention fee if you keep your current number.
